Arbitration in India is recognised as a fast growth industry. The LCIA has established a facility with its own Rules. CIArb has an India Branch. Many issues continue to arouse debate, whether relating to the effectiveness of arbitration in India, the role of the Courts in supporting arbitration, the enforcement of awards, or BITs. A varied, highly distinguished, and expert panel of speakers will address the topical issues.
CHAIR: IRVINDER BASHKI, Joint Vice-Chair & Hon Secretary, London Branch CIArb SPEAKERS: SHISHIR DHOLAKIA, a Senior Counsel practising in the Supreme Court of India and an arbitration law expert, will consider the 1996 Indian Arbitration Act and its proposed amendments. ALEXANDROS PANAYIDES will address Indian BITs. Alexandros is a Partner in Clifford Chance’s international commercial arbitration group with particular emphasis on dispute resolution in the construction, oil & gas and maritime industries, in particular in the Middle and Far East. SHREYAS JAYASIMHA is a Partner in the firm of AZB & Partners. He practises litigation, arbitration and mediation. His practice includes the areas of Mergers and Acquisitions and Corporate Law, Technology, Intellectual Property Law as well as Property and Real Estate. Shreyas will speak on the enforcement of arbitral awards in India. AJAY THOMAS is the Registrar with the London Court of International Arbitration in India and heads its Delhi ased secretariat, he will speak on "LCIA India Rules – Ushering in a new era?” Ajay has practised at the Bombay High Court, as counsel at a leading maritime law chamber. Prior to joining LCIA India, Ajay was Counsel and Head of the SouthAsia desk of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) and Assistant Counsel with the Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration (SCMA).
